The Aero Lite electric wheelchair weighs 12 kg with its battery fitted, and 10.8 kg without. That is light enough to lift with one arm, which is the whole point of a carbon fibre frame. What makes it unusual is that the same 12 kg chair is rated to carry users up to 145 kg.

Folded, this power wheelchair measures 78 x 28 x 70 cm. The 28 cm figure is the one worth noting, because a chair that thin slides down the side of a boot instead of filling it. Folding takes about a second, and a moulded handle on the frame means you carry it like a suitcase rather than wrestling with it.

A Power Wheelchair Built for Real Distances

Two 180 W brushless motors move this electric wheelchair at up to 6 km/h, and the removable 24 V 7.8 Ah lithium battery covers 18 to 25 km before it needs the 3 to 6 hour charge. Because the battery lifts out, you can charge it indoors or carry a spare.

Both wheel sizes run solid magnesium alloy tyres, 6.5 inches at the front and 11 inches at the rear, so punctures are simply not a failure mode. An electromagnetic brake holds the chair as soon as you release the joystick, and that joystick carries a light and a USB port.
