The Explorer Air electric wheelchair weighs 18.9 kg with its lithium battery fitted, which puts it within reach of most people who need to lift a chair into a car on their own. Take the battery out and it drops to 16.9 kg. Despite that, the aluminium alloy frame is rated to carry users up to 150 kg.

Folded, this power wheelchair measures 41 x 56 x 87 cm. The 41 cm width is the number that matters, because it is what lets the chair slide into a boot sideways or stand upright in a hallway cupboard. In addition, the folded chair rests on its own castors, so you can wheel it rather than carry it.

A Power Wheelchair Built for Everyday Range

Two 200 W motors drive this electric wheelchair at 2 to 6 km/h, and the 24 V lithium battery covers 15 to 20 km between charges, which recharge in 5 to 7 hours. Eleven-inch pneumatic rear tyres take the sting out of rough paving, while the 8-inch solid front wheels will not puncture.

The imported 360-degree joystick has an LCD that shows speed, battery level and trip distance at a glance, and it mounts on either armrest. A 60 cm turning radius lets this motorised wheelchair turn inside most rooms, and gradients of up to 13 degrees are within its range. The seat measures 44 x 47 cm.
